Here are some sample Driving Questions that could be used to start some project-based learning. They are loosely written in ascending order of challenge:

  1. How can we teach other children how to be safe when there is a fire at school, at home, and in public places?
  2. How can we help animals in our local environment?
  3. How do I plan a school carnival that will raise money for our school?
  4. How do I design a pet shop that local customers will come and buy pets from?
  5. What do ratio and chemistry have to do with cooking?
  6. How healthy is our relationship with nature?
  7. How is geodiversity important to our local area?
  8. How can we transfer energy stored in the wind into something useful?
  9. Were there any positives during the Dark Ages?
  10. What am I made of?
  11. Why do I get sick and how do I stop it?
  12. How do robots think?
  13. Is it ever right to rebel?
  14. Do we need language to shape visual art?
  15. Is refuge worth the risk?
  16. Do actions speak louder than words?
  17. What is the proper role of a citizen in his or her community?
  18. What does it mean to be a citizen?
  19. What is a learner’s role in fighting against injustice?
  20. How can we promote early childhood literacy in our community?
  21. Is invasion always a bad thing?
  22. Are we really free to choose?
  23. Why do we need bees and what can we do to help them?
  24. Why do we believe what we believe and how does the media influence what we perceive to be real?
    vHow does your personal culture and the culture of your community influence how you interact with nature?
  25. How can we learn about ourselves from our experiences in nature and how to tell that story effectively?
  26. How can we use our school garden to create a maximum impact on our community?
  27. How can we celebrate and create a movement for healthy, affordable, sustainable food in our community?
  28. How can our school become a carbon-neutral facility?
  29. How can data help us make informed decisions for our health?
  30. How do we reduce the negative impact of plastics in our freshwater and oceans?
  31. How do the structures of biological molecules relate to the functions that they carry out?
